The Swiftwater Inne Haunting
10-18-03
The wife and I hadn't been on a good ole ghost-hunting expedition for a while, (a year or more at this point), so we decided to look into local hauntings to see what we could dig up. Well, the Swiftwater Inne, (located on Rt. 611 between Tannersville and Mt. Pocono), was definitely close, and was purported to be very haunted.
As I recall, it was a Saturday night, and very chilly for the time of year. We arrived at the Inne, and were immediately ushered into the main dining room. We felt a bit underdressed for the occasion, but it didn't seem to bother anyone around us in nicer clothes.
The waitress we ordered from offered us information about the place's anomoly without us even prompting other than a quick comment that the place was beautiful. Legend has it that at some point someone was killed in one of the upstairs rooms, (that were originally hotel rooms back in the 1800's), and that a specific room was severely haunted now. Stories of a woman walking back and forth in the hallway and the room have been reported by several occupants over the years. Also reported were strange noises and bangs occasionally. Complaints of this nature were usually weekly to monthly from the people that now occupy the efficiency appartments that were once the hotel rooms.
We told her that we were interior designers from Philadelpia, (which of course we weren't), and would appreciate being able to go upstairs and take some pictures of the beautiful antique designs of the craftsmanship. She cleared this with her manager, and after the meal we were off!
The staircase can be seen in the below picture. It really was a beautiful place, but we totally failed to pick up anything of interest other than a couple energy orbs. Perhaps we didn't hit it at the right time, or just didn't capture anything good for the simple fact that we were working under pressure in a very short period of time. Below are more of the photos from the "hunt".
**It can be noted that, upon a further visit to this Inne, (for Liza's birthday - the food really is good!), that while sitting in the middle dining room, the radio was physically turned off by unseen hands. When the waitress returned she asked us, (and we were alone in this dining room being that it was a slow weeknight), "Did that radio turn off by itself again?" We answered in the positive. She simply sighed and went over and turned it back on again. It was an older radio with knobs, so it wasn't simply an electric failure.**
The Verdict?
Undecided. There was definitely a weird feeling in the air, no doubt. Almost as if you could sense something that wasn't there. Other than that we could capture no proof that the place has anything going on in it. Now, should we be invited back to do an "over-nighter" by the management of the establishment, (are you reading this Swiftwater Inne owners?), we could probably capture something of interest.
